Tails
"Tails" is a service design concept that reimagines bakery operations through the lens of waste reduction. The project transforms bread offcuts into a unique brand feature and reward system, redefining sustainability responsibility in retail spaces. Through a system of reusable containers and visual data displays, it creates a shared cycle of environmental stewardship.
The design features two sizes of reusable boxes, each divisible into six flat panels, offering both purchase and rental options. Four large containers behind the counter serve as a dynamic data visualisation system, tracking daily waste reduction progress. Inspired by Norwegian research on bread waste, particularly end pieces, the project addresses a significant yet often overlooked sustainability challenge in food retail.
